The Man Who Made Nefertiti a Berliner
by Dietmar Strauch (translated by Katherine Anne Vanovitch)
James Simon (1851-1932) gave more exhibits to the unique Museum Island in the heart of Berlin than any other benefactor. In 1912 an expedition he financed in Egypt unearthed the bust of Nefertiti that still inspires visitors from all over the world.
This book sketches the life of a man who set a fine example, not only with his passion for collecting art but also with his social commitment in aid of children and the deprived. The biography also grants an insight into the turbulent history of Berlin’s museums.
